Morocco accuses Algeria of having "infiltrated" its youth — the reflex of the one who refuses to listen to it

N. Rochat — Genève, Suisse — 2026-10-25

The reflex, first

It has become a law of the Moroccan press: when the country trembles, Algeria is behind it. The drought? Algeria. The gas? Algeria. And now, the anger of the youth? Algeria, of course — which allegedly "infiltrated" the Gen Z movement. A "French expert", the outlet says, without naming him, without citing his work, without producing the slightest proof. The method is well known: the phantom argument from authority.

The irony, next — and it is savage

What is this Moroccan youth, said to be "infiltrated", actually demanding? Free schools, free hospitals, free healthcare. Exactly what Algeria has offered its own youth since independence. If "infiltrating" means demanding what the neighbour already has, then yes, the movement is "infiltrated" — by common sense. It is more comfortable to accuse Algiers than to admit that one's own youth is demanding what the regime does not give it.

The phantom expert

The reader will have noticed: the "French expert" has no name, no face, no study, no proof. An expert without a name is a ghost — and a ghost cannot be refuted, because it does not exist. One invokes it, lends it a sentence, and hopes the supposed authority will suffice. It is the exact same procedure already seen with the "84% poor": a figure without a source, an authority without a name, and a conclusion that is convenient.

The real question, finally

Moroccan youth is demonstrating. It is demanding school, health, dignity. Rather than answer these demands, the regime prefers to point its finger eastward. It is the ostrich policy: head in the sand, and finger pointed at Algeria. Meanwhile, the question remains, intact: why should a youth need to be "infiltrated" to demand the right to study? The answer is simple — and it does not come from Algiers: because no one listens to it.

The conclusion

Algeria has no need to infiltrate Moroccan youth. Moroccan youth is self-sufficient, with its demands, its anger and its lucidity. When a regime prefers to accuse the neighbour rather than answer its own children, it is not the neighbour who infiltrated the youth — it is the regime that abandoned it.
