Kévin T., the Trappes shooter: why they hide his name, his face and his ideology from you

N. Rochat — Genève, Suisse — 2026-10-25

The name they hide from you

His name is Kévin T., 39 years old. That is all the mainstream press gives you: an initial. No full name, no face, no photo, no origin, no religion — a bare “T.” dropped in the middle of an article that, for its part, does not skimp on the psychiatric details. In France, when the suspect is an Arab or a Black man, we are used to being given the name, the first name, the origin, the neighbourhood, the religion, even the family tree. Here, nothing. As if the name of the man who shot “because of skin colour” deserved to be protected.

The framing that suits them

And how is this shooter presented to you? “Psychiatric observation.” “Drugs in his blood.” An unbalanced man, a drug addict — not a terrorist. His police custody is suspended, he is placed under observation. The word “terrorism” does appear, but as if reluctantly, between quotation marks and in the conditional. When a Muslim commits the irreparable, they scream “Islamist terrorism” before even having the name. When a Kevin shoots at Muslims, they pull out the medical file.

The double standard, by the facts

Let us compare, since that is what disturbs them. An Arab suspect: full name, origin, religion, photo, a live raid on BFM, and the word “Islam” repeated in every sentence. A suspect named Kévin: “T.”, “unbalanced”, “drugs”. The first is a terrorist; the second is a sick man. The first drags his whole community with him; the second drags only his psychiatry. This is not ethics: it is selection. And selection, we know perfectly well whom it spares and whom it crushes.

The conclusion

They are not just hiding a name from you: they are hiding a mechanism. The one that turns a Muslim into a terrorist the moment he breathes, and a Kévin into a poor sick man the moment he kills. If the name of Kévin T. is rationed out to you drop by drop, it is because it disturbs them — and if it disturbs them, it is because it confirms what this press refuses to admit: “identity-based” terrorism has a face, and that face is not the one they have been showing you for twenty years. That is why they hide his name from you.
